1995 Alfa Romeo 164Q

Of all of the 164 models, the 164Q seems to fall victim to the most customization. Here we have a dark window tint, Alfa Romeo script on the rear light bar and at the top of the windshield, a custom exhaust, tinted taillights, and yellow foglights. Oh, and the car, originally black, is wrapped in red vinyl. Fortunately, it's all reversible, and it's hopefully the sign of an owner who enjoyed and cared for his car enough to make a few tweaks here and there.

More notable than the mods is the fact that this example doesn't run. The seller doesn't know the exact reason, but suspects that it has something to do with timing. We'd be cautious with starting a 24V car without confirmation of proper cam timing - as long as the valves aren't bent, it could be a pretty simple fix.

1995 Alfa Romeo 164 Quadrifoglio 3.0L 24V Engine 5 Speed Transmission.
The 164Q was only produced for the 1994-1995 model years in very small numbers. The Pininfarina designed 164 was the last car developed by an independent Alfa Romeo, and the range-topping Quadrifoglio models were fitted with an extended rear apron, side-skirts, and deeper front spoiler from the factory.  This is a non running car. It was used as daily driver by PO for 7 years, but I bought it as is. I am not sure what is wrong but it could be anything from timing belt, head gasket or other engine work. Engine bay is complete. Transmission shifts through gears. Clutch is good. No rust. The car is black and the red is a wrap. Driver front seat is worn. passenger seats is better. Rear seats, door panels headliner are very nice. Dash is good. Suspension and brakes are good. Wheels and tires are good. Clean NJ title. Mileage shows 91K but there seems to be indication of more miles before so mileage is unknow.

The seller claims that the car is rust-free. The 164 isn't known to rust too bad, but given the New Jersey location, we would want to confirm that the car is indeed rust-free. Looking at the brackets on the A/C condenser, we see surface rust that we would expect to find under the rest of the vehicle.

We wonder where the bidding will go on this one. At under $3,000, it's probably worth the risk of buying without a mechanical inspection. These are somewhat rare, and when in good condition they are very rewarding to drive. For those with Alfa 24V experience, this could be a nice car to bring back to life and enjoy for relatively little cash.
