1986 Ferrari 328 GTS

In case you were curious, this is how we at CICFS would spec our 328. It's a GTS, because finding the rare GTB to have a stiffer chassis and slightly better styling would add too much to the purchase price. It's yellow - and here comes the important part - with a brown interior. No bumblebee theme here. That look will forever remind us of 2012 Camaros with Transformer dreams.

Since this blog was started, these cars have nearly doubled in value. We can tell you this because we spent the past two weeks updating over 900 photos and links to get in compliance with eBay's affiliate link program. In 2012, the concern with a 328 GTS was that the service cost would soon overtake the purchase price. Now, it seems more important to get one now before values go up.

These are pretty basic cars, when it comes down to it. Steel fabricated suspensions can be repaired and rebuilt as many times as necessary, and the powertrain isn't known for expensive failures, save those resulting from broken timing belts. Service is still through the wheel well, meaning that engine-out services aren't necessary for belt changes. The Bosch CIS fuel-injection system is very simple, though it needs fresh (low-moisture) fuel to stay in proper shape. Rebuilders can handle the task of rebuilding the fuel distributor for a somewhat reasonable price, but we think it's best to keep the original in good shape.

We would feel like imposters in such a sleek car, but if we were to go with a mid-engine Ferrari from this era, we'd pick one of the 43 Mondial T Coupes imported to North America. You get the 300bhp 3.4L engine from the 348 vs. the 266bhp 3.2L here in the GTS - a real sleeper, as far as Ferraris go. Still, of all of the Ferrari 328s we've seen for sale, this one is our favorite.
