1993 Alfa Romeo Spider

Another week, another Series 4 Spider on CICFS. I honestly can never get enough of these roadsters. No one will miss you coming down the street in this yellow 1993 Spider Veloce. Having covered only 30,000 miles, it appears almost like new and is sure to its new owner a lot of smiles per miles.

This is the last year for the Alfa Romeo spider, the 1993 model. The last iteration is considered to be the best and I agree. I have owned several over the years and I just took this on a run over the weekend and it was an absolute joy to drive1 They are a blast. There is no need to have a more complicated car to derive more pleasure. Alfa figured out decades ago how to extract the maximum amount of driving pleasure from their cars and nobody does it better. I have 12 cylinders cars and they are not more fun- louder yes but they do not bring a bigger smile to my face while driving. Sadly, the Veloce's must go to fund my other Alfa project but knowing they will be enjoyed is a good thing.

This car is in very good condition with no needs and can be driven anywhere. Just turn the key, drop the top and go! I am happy to answer any questions. From the body, paint, perfect wheels, you would be very hard pressed to find a better example.

The seller describes this Spider as the last model year. Technically, they are correct, as there were no Spiders built in 1994, but there were Spiders sold as 1994 models under the Commemorative Editon, or CE badge. Clean, low mileage Spiders and Spider Veloces can be had for around $13,000 to $15,000. At a Buy It Now price of $20,000, this puts it right up there with the best of the best, but everything from the interior to the engine bay on this one looks showroom fresh. This is certainly one of the better Series 4 Spiders we've seen here at CICFS.

1991 Alfa Romeo Spider

The Series 4 Alfa Romeo Spider of 1991 to 1994 is one of the most popular cars we've featured here on CICFS, mainly because there's plenty of them out there to choose from. This Spider for sale in Florida is in a lesser seen white hue, but is in stunning condition having covered less than 30,000 miles. With warmer weather around the corner, now is a great time to jump on one of these classic roadsters.

Driving impression:

The car is a joy to drive. It starts right up without hesitation or extra noises. The engine is strong and well tuned. The suspension is solid and there is no play in the steering wheel. It shifts with ease as you would expect from a 27,000 mile Alfa. The whole car is a super wow. The seller is getting up in age and simply doesn't have the time to enjoy the car and is having trouble getting in and out of it. Hence the sale.

In my opinion, this Spider could win Platinum at a concours. I've been a concours judge of Ferraris for many years and know a Platinum winner when I see one. I would deduct 3 points for the engine bay, albeit all it would take is some elbow grease to pull up the points. I would also deduct 2 points for the aftermarket radio, but that can be remedied by buying one off eBay and installing it. It's an amazing car that I'm sure will fall into the hands of a collector.

Most Series 4 Spiders that we've seen here on CICFS tend to range between $12,000 to $15,000. A Spider, especially a non-Veloce, closing in on $20,000 is a bit hard to stomach given where the market is for these vehicles. But, when you consider the amount of style and driving pleasure these cars offer and what $18,000 buys you when it comes to a new car, this car could be a bargain to someone.

1964 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider

We featured an Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider here at CICFS last month. These are a bit of a dark horse in the history of classic Italian roadsters, but nevertheless important in the genesis of Alfa Romeo. The 2600 series was the last Alfa Romeo to be fitted with a twin cam, inline six cylinder engine. This 2600 Spider for sale in Nevada is not a concours example, but looks ready to be enjoyed.

For Sale: 1964 Alfa Romeo 2600 Touring Spider (VIN #AR192973). The 2600 Touring Spider is a beautiful and rare automobile. Only 2,255 were manufactured during its four year production run from 1962-66. There are far fewer on the road today. It’s a roomy, comfortable sports car that’s solid, elegant, and smooth on the road.

The car features a 2,582cc in-line six cylinder dual overhead cam engine that delivers 165 horsepower at 5,900 rpm. It has less than 1,500 miles on a rebuilt engine. Engine is running rich and a bit rough. Valves and Solex carbs will probably need adjustment. Transmission shifts smoothly. Body is straight and in good shape. Very nice paint, though not perfect. The most noticeable blemishes can be seen in photo of left rear taillight (in corner where trunk meets body), and the two close-ups of paint by rear bumper. Interior in good condition. Gauges work and appear to be accurate. Five 165R400 Michelin X tires purchased from Coker Tires have less than 1,000 miles on them. This vehicle has been kept in an insulated garage, and hasn’t been driven in the rain or snow since I’ve owned it (2007 – present).

Those who are familiar with this model will notice that it’s missing the Touring badges, the large rear chrome license plate holder, and the chrome trim “spears” that run between the wheel wells on each side below the doors. I have the Touring badges and the license plate holder (see photos), but they will need to be installed by the buyer. I do not have the chrome side “spears”, but I know of a supplier that carries them. Also included are original owner’s manuals, a CD that includes owner, service, and parts manuals, and a variety of spare parts. Have service records for past six years, along with service records from previous owner.

As we noted with the 2600 Spider from last month, Hagerty is listing values for these roadsters anywhere from about $20,000 to $60,000. This car isn't the most perfect example, but is certainly presentable. As such, it will probably fetch somewhere between $45,000 to $50,000.

I've always wanted a Series 4 Alfa Romeo Spider and to be honest, if I was in the market for one, I probably wouldn't look much further than this car, except for the fact that my favorite color was the rare Vinaccia (wine) Red, a sort of burgundy metallic. I'd say the asking price for this Alfa is right in the sweet spot, given the mileage, condition and the work that's been done to it. Good luck to the seller and thanks for reading, David!

1989 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

I can't think of a car that makes me sit around the office more and daydream about the summer months and vacation more than the Alfa Romeo Spider. Well, those warmer days are not too far off for us in the Northeastern US, but it's never to early to start thinking of a summer plaything. This late model Series 3 Spider Veloce for sale in Florida is just the thing for those carefree summer trips.

You are looking at a beautiful Alfa Spider that is in super condition. This is a totally rust free car. The exterior is like new with really not a mark on it. The wheels all look like brand new. The convertible top is brand new! The interior is leather and is in amazing condition. Look at the pictures. Amazing condition. Has the factory Alfa floor mats. Super clean interior. This car runs brand new! Hits the road like new. It comes with a car cover, extra A/C condenser and a brand new bra. The previous owner of this car spent a huge amount of money restoring this car. His loss is your gain. This will make someone a great car with great investment potential.

Some of the most affordable Spiders are the Series 3 versions from the 1980s. You can find plenty on the market at any given time for well under $10,000, such as this one. I'd suspect given the condition and mileage, this Spider won't last too long, as it is well sorted and painted a desirable hue.

1979 Lancia Beta Zagato

The Beta Zagato, known as the Spider outside of the US, was Lancia's last ditch attempt at trying to salvage what little market share they had left stateside. Featuring a targa top with a fold down rear roof section, these were actually designed by Pininfarina, yet built by the coachbuilder whose name the car bore. You can find a few of these Beta Zagatos left, but many are rust buckets and specimens that would take the most ardent Lancia enthusiast to resurrect. This car for sale in California, however, has benefitted from some recent refurbishment and is ready to be enjoyed by the next owner.

Springtime is near and summer around the corner. This wonderful Lancia Zagato Convertible is ready to be enjoyed! For a smart collector/enthusiast who wants to drive a head turning, unique, fun, exotic Italian roadster without breaking the bank, THIS IS YOUR CAR. These cars are scarce in this kind of condition but as only the second owner I got the car from a very well to do owner who drove it sparingly, maintained it beautifully, and kept the mileage low. I can detect no accident damage ever, and the car has absolutely no rust that I can find or detect which is to be expected be a California Car from new.

In the past year I took a very good car and made it excellent by taking care of three major areas that always need attention on older Zagatos: First, I completely redid the interior upholstery to an exact match of the original shapes and patterns. See the photos. Everything you see on the seats is new front and back, and looks exactly like it came fom the factory however in a much more durable ambla type material that looks and feels like the fragile Italian leather used original, but will not shrink and crack while you enjoy top down motoring. Speaking of top, the wonderful targa convertible top and rear window are brand new just 5 months ago also, and the car comes with a perfect condition boot cover for when the top is down. Also inside there was only one hairline crack in the original dash top, however a very high quality molded replacement has been professionally fitted and is undetectable from a new dash which is what it looks like.

The rest of the dashboard and instrumentation is original and working. The clock keeps perfect time, the lighter works to charge the cell phone (or light a Gitane....if you must -this car has never been smoked in!) and the factory original radio works however I never use it and will find the removable antennae mast before delivery. The power windows both work, however characteristically slow as they all are. The heating and a/c system is intact and working, although it may need a charge as I dont use it but the compressor kicks in and all things work and blow as they should. Most of these systems have been removed, but that really hurts the character of the car as a possible tourer. The condition inside is that of more like a one or two year old car. I took the floor mats out for the photos just to show the factory carpet has no wear at all. Likewise the trunk looks perfect. (The tire will be back on the apare wheel on delivery. All four tires are a brand new set in the correct size as well.

Mechanically the car is a joy and currently needs nothing I know of. I just did the full power steering rack replacement with a newly rebuilt unit that has a lifetime warranty and it is dry and perfect. The car drives great with a smooth gearbox in all five speeds, and amazing brakes and a silky smooth engine that is economical and perky. Why sell it now that it is so nice? I have just finished my long 3 year body off Triumph TR250 restoration and it will do the driving duty this summer as I try to finish a Lancia Fulvia and my E type. I have really enjoyed the Zagato roadster but I want it to be used and enjoyed now that I have finished another roadster. Please ask all questions and be amazed at the very reasonable reserve that will be met soon if anyone out there knows a bargain. This is a good car, without the nagging achilles heels of others. You can sometimes find these cheap, but you will have an unpleasant dog of a car needing thousands of dollars to get it to where this one is, if it can be gotten there. You see most of these cars are rusty, and its a dedicated enthusiast that wants to tackle that. Dont get e rusty Lancia. Please start with a good car. This one lets you start enjoyiong it right away and it will be a super bargain for someone. these are well supported by parts specialists and people are really discovering Lancia. grab this one, and you will enjoy it or years to come as they go up in value. Ask any and all questions. Cheers- Bob.

Betas have a bit of a notorious reputation for being cars that rust and mechanically troublesome. Noted automotive journalist Jeremy Clarkson himself referred to this car as a problem child, but then again, no one had tried to drive a Beta Coupe across the spine of Africa before. Last year, a documented Beta Zagato owned by the Fiat Lancia Club president brought $6,400. An example like this will probably bring a little bit less; perhaps somewhere in the $4,000 to $5,000 range.

1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

The 105 Series Alfa Romeo Spider is one of the most plentiful Italian classics available in the US and a good starting point for those new to the Italian car game. The Spiders produced in the late 1970s and 1980s can get a bit overlooked, due to the popularity of the original Duetto and the refined, final edition Series 4. This Spider for sale in Louisiana caught my attention, as it has relatively low mileage and looks clean and crisp in this shade of silver blue with Panasport style wheels.

This car is the archetype of the classic sexy Italian roadster! A "Wednesday Alfa," the vehicle has absolutely no rust and has had zero serious mechanical or electrical issues. I am only it's second owner and it as been impeccably maintained, restored, and enhanced to achieve superb daily drivability that is unlike any other Spider. This includes:

-New front and rear suspension
-Chassis stiffening system
-New cool air intake
-New exhaust system from manifolds to tail pipe
-New brakes x 4 and master cylinder
-New 90A alternator
-New water pump
-New valve cover gasket
-New Lights/Turn signal/Wiper switch
-New ignition switch
-New 15" Rota panasport alloy wheels
-New Yokahama tires
-New plugs and certified Alfa wires
-New Alfa top
-New clutch hydraulics

All work done 2010-2011 by Ralli-Round, Alfa specialists in Seattle, WA. The car runs like no other Spider and loves to be driven every day! More photos available on request.

While the Series 4 Spiders are a bit more reliable with their Bosch engine management, the Series 3 Spiders can offer a bit more bang for the buck. A lot of work has been done to this particular car and in light of that, the car is priced well within reason. For someone looking for a plug and play Alfa Spider, this car would be a good candidate.

1981 Fiat 124 Spider

It's never too early to start thinking Spring, and what better to celebrate the next season than a classic Fiat roadster? This 124 Spider for sale in Miami is a later variant that had a new paint job and convertible top replaced 14 years ago.

1981 Fiat 124 Spider

1981 Fiat Spider 124, ready to drive & enjoy! This handsome Italian car -designed by Pininfarina- is just with its third owner, after being among two members of the same family since it was first bought new in 1981.

Exterior

The black paint with pin striping was professionally done in 1998. The paint still looks very good for being almost 14 years old. There are a few areas near the wheel wells where there are bubbles under the paint (see pictures). All of the lights work and none of the plastic lenses are damaged. The horn, signal lights, brake lights and windshield wipers all work. The tires are in excellent condition and practically look new. The rims are original and were restored. The convertible top was replaced at the same time when the paint was done. It is in very good condition. The bumpers are beginning to show a little oxidizing. All the insignias are in place and the front and rear ones are new. All rubber seals are in place some have small cracks from age.

Interior

This is something unique not only because it is in great condition, but for the red color that was only applied to a limited number of units of this type, instead of the usual beige or black. The covered dashboard is in perfect condition and with no cracks. All gauges work, except the tachometer. All of the lights work and the radio is a recent Pioneer am/fm/CD. Console, seats and carpet are in excellent condition as well as showed in pictures taken just before the ad for this auction was posted. Among the interior parts replaced recently are the sun visors and arm rest chrome trim strips. Shift boot retaining ring was also replaced with a new OEM one.

Mechanical

The engine runs beautifully and it does not burn any oil. Regular scheduled oil and filter changes. Clutch works fine as does the transmission. Shifting through all gears is effortless. Emergency break works fine. Steering is fine as is suspension. As a part of mechanical restoration/maintenance, the following parts were recently replaced with new ones: Battery, original distributor cap, rotor, coil, spark plugs, ignition wires, electronic ignition module, water pump, oxygen sensor, fuel filter, brake pads, and exhaust system (including catalytic converter). The original radiator was also cleaned and restored presenting no leaks.

In general, this great car is ready to drive and enjoy with either the top up or down. Rarely and carefully driven and never out in bad weather. This car has not seen much use and has always been garage kept and pampered. 2 keys and original owner’s manual included. This car is being sold in as is condition with a clear title. Sold in “as is” condition with no warranties expressed or implied. By bidding you accept those terms. Please ask questions or come view the car to determine that it is what you expect prior to bidding. Feel free to send a message to the seller with your questions. Buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping.

These 124 Spiders offer a lot of style and oftentimes for less cash than a similar vintage Alfa Romeo Spider. These are a great starting point for the novice Italian car enthusiast, as they are not too expensive to buy and won't put you in the poor house when it comes to maintenance. One can expect to pay somewhere between $7,000 and $12,000 for a Spider like this that isn't a garage queen nor a clapped out basket case.

1966 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider was one of the open roofed cars that started the American love affair with the Italian roadster. Small and lively, with it's twin cam four cylinder engine, these cars have attracted a following amongst collectors and it certainly shows, given what these cars trade hands for. Lesser known is the Giulietta Spider's big sister, the 2600. Distinguished by it's longer bonnet, four lamps at the front and graceful Carrozzeria Touring bodywork, the big Spider was motivated by a twin cam, six cylinder engine, noted for it's sonorous exhaust note. It's rare to spot one of these, even at a show, as a little over 2,200 were built. This 2600 Spider for sale in Massachusetts needs a little attention but is a solid car to start with for those looking to undertake something a bit short of a full restoration.

1962 Alfa Romeo 2600 Touring bodied Spider with only 56,850 Km, 35,500 miles, believed to be original. 2.6 liter straight 6 double overhead cam motor, 5 speed transmission. This is an original European model that I bought from a 90 year old gentleman in California 3 years ago. It is a good solid unrestored 52 year old classic car. It was repainted many years ago and the paint shows some age. Both bumpers have been rechromed along with the center grill, some of the other chrome could use rechroming. The top is like new in black cloth. The rear window is like new, clear and no cracks or coloring. The interior has had the seat covers replaced at some time. I had the original Solex carbs rebuilt along with new rubber intake pipes. The master brake cylinder was rebuilt last year. I also installed a new "123" electronic ignition and coil. The original Marelli distributor, points and cap go with the car. The fuel tank has been removed, washed and coated with "Kreem" to prevent rusting in the tank. The tires are the original type Michelin X 165Rs from Coker Tire, just a few years old with no wear. This is not a concours car but a great old classic Alfa that has survived 52 years without being molested and is all there including all the emblems. There were only 2255 made of these Touring bodied spiders from 1961 to 1968. These were the last of the big 6 cylinder Alfas made. A true classic. The current NADA average retail is $48,400. The current Hagerty average book value is $49,084. The prices of these rare Alfas have been climbing in recent years. The car is being sold as is where is.

Hagerty is just about spot on in terms of value here. A really rough 2600 Spider might run you in the mid $30k range up to about $45,000. The best of the best may bring between $60,000 and $70,000. Considering what you are getting, with the classic Alfa Romeo inline six and Touring bodywork, that is one of the better deals to be had when it comes to a classic Italian roadster.

1991 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

Always a favorite here at CICFS, the Alfa Romeo Spider is an attractive, affordable way to experience al fresco Italian motoring in its simplest form. Of all the 105 Series Spiders, the 1991-94 Series 4 model offers a curious mix of classic and modern looks with modern reliability by way of Bosch Motronic fuel injection. This Series 4 Spider for sale in South Carolina has higher mileage but has been well looked after, appearing classy in a lesser seen shade of black.

1991 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

1991 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. Black on tan leather. Clean Carfax. 112K documented miles. 5-speed manual. Southern car. Starts right up, runs and drives strong and smooth with no issues. Condition overall is very good both cosmetically and mechanically. Engine runs quiet, pulls hard. No 2nd gear transmission crunch. Brand new Bridgestone Potenza Hi-Performance tires. Newer all leather (front, back and sides) and suede seat covers.

Paint is glossy and shiny, with a few expected door dings and paint imperfections of car of this age. Lots of new parts and standard Alfa maintenances services have been performed. IE, you will not have to have these regular items done upon purchase: new clutch master cylinder and slave, motor mounts, transmission mount, valve adjustment, head re-torque, fresh fluids/flush everywhere, new air/fuel filters, new battery, tune-up (plugs, rotor, cap), hoses, belts, thermostat, fuses, bulbs, etc. I have receipts for all the parts and services.

Head gasket is leak free, brakes are strong, clutch is super strong, power windows run fast and smooth. Canvas top looks good outside, but is tired inside (faded with some sealant patches), although the top is leak free. Full tan book cover. EVERY single electrical function and little light bulb works, except the tachometer and the AC (intact, blowers and switches work, needs recharge at the very least). 2 sets of keys (originals and spares), complete original toolkit in bag, booklet, full newer Pirelli P4 spare tire. Has detachable face Pioneer CD player, new power antenna.

The only negatives of the car are typical to Alfas of this vintage. Typical light oil leaks, but no oil burning. There is a small paint repair near rear taillight where there was rain water damage (there was a tiny common spot of corrosion here which was ground down to bare metal, treated, and painted). There is a 4x2 inch patch in the spare tire well, professionally repaired. The hood is slightly oxidized in places, and there are a few tiny rock chips on the nose. Overall, these are things one would expect for a car of this age.

All in all this is a very clean and meticulously sorted Alfa Spider. I bought the car to keep but stumbled upon a fixer upper Spider and decided to sell one. This Spider has been well maintained, and will make a very reliable car for the enthusiast who will enjoy putting guilt free miles on it. There’s at least $5000 worth of services done to this car, that will need to be done to any Alfa you buy, regardless of mileage. The tachometer can easily be removed and sent for repair at Palo Alto (it is getting signal), the AC can be charged up (I will even throw in a new, sealed fresh IAP receiver dryer). These are just things I haven’t gotten to.

I am an honest seller and an Alfa guy – this is my fifth Spider and I love fixing them up as strictly a labor of love. It truly needs nothing to drive across country. If you’d like to talk on the phone, please send me a Private Message. Car is also for sale locally in Charleston, South Carolina. Fly in and drive it home, or I’m happy to help with shipping. Car will remain garaged and insured until pick up. Title is clean, in hand. Asking $9000 or best offer - willing to negotiate, but please no low ball offers. More pics and info available upon request.

This car has more mileage than most Series 4 Spiders we've seen here, but it has been owned by an Alfa enthusiast and received the care it deserved. The seller's asking price is realistic enough, given the condition and that he seems flexible on negotiation to a point. If you're thinking about buying a play toy for the summer, now is the time to get your hands on a classic Spider to enjoy.
