1995 Ferrari 348 Spider

The Ferrari 348 was a victim of circumstance in Ferrari history. It wasn’t particularly well regarded, as it followed the legendary 308/328 and was succeeded by the F355, the car that the wedge styling from the 1980s died with. Given the direction Ferraris are headed, with the absence of true manual gearboxes and ever increasing technological complexity, will the 348 begin to rise in value as collectors seek more pure forms of exotic Italian motoring. From the looks of this 348 Spyder, it appears it is still an opportune time to snag one of these mid-engined sports cars from the mid-1990s.

Not a lot of information is provided by the seller, but if the major service has been done, that's a bonus because that will be your major worry with this car. I’ve mentioned the comparison before, but with Porsche 964 and 993 prices on the rise, they are eclipsing exotics such as this Spyder. Granted, German engineering is more robust and you’re likely to have less issues going forward with the Porsche, but for the price, it’s harder to get this much flash for the cash.

1993 Ferrari 348 Serie Speciale

The Ferrari 348 is a bit of a forgotten Ferrari, having succeeded the iconic 308/328 and preceded the much loved, last of the wedge shaped F355. During the 348 run, a special version was offered with club racing in mind. The Serie Speciale was a limited edition solely for the US market. One hundred examples were produced, with an increase in horsepower to 312, revised rear lamps and a larger front spoiler. A widened rear track and kevlar sport seats rounded out the package. This Serie Speciale for sale in Florida has seen action in the 1996 Challenge Series and a few other events.

Rarely available limited production Ferrari 348 Serie Speciale in a most desirable color combination of yellow with a very fine contrasting black interior. This car is in extremely nice and mostly original condition and has not only all of its original Serie Speciale features such as enhanced aerodynamcs, increased rear track width, shorter gear ratios, higher engine output and F40 style seats but also all of the 348 Challenge Series extras that were utilized on these famous single marque race cars. This automobile ran a limited amount of races in the 1996 Challenge Series and suffered no damages during its time on track. The car was then returned to the street where it has resided since.

This lovely Italian work of art was purchased by me last year from a very fastidious enthusiast who maintained an enormous binder of documents, receipts and records including period articles and the ORIGINAL factory brochure. I then had the car painstakingly detailed and checked over in anticipation of being allowed to show it at the 2013 Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach, Florida. The car was accepted and was displayed on the lawn of the famous Breakers Hotel next to a pair of 288 GTO's. The car showed very well and was awarded a 2nd place trophy.

This car runs, drives and looks fantastic and was also exercised at the Thursday track event at the Cavallino Classic trackday in the Sport Group. The car ran perfectly with no problems whatsoever whereupon it was driven back home for a minor washing before its debut on Saturday at the Concours. These limited production Ferrari's are becoming very collectable and hard to find in this condition. I suggest coming to see the car in person at which time you will be thrilled with its appearance, condition and driving experience.

The 348 has become one of those Ferraris with resale values close to where mere mortals can afford them. Of all of the 348s, the Serie Speciale and later Competizione versions bring the highest numbers. At $55,000, we're just around the top of the range of what someone would expect to pay for any 348, but with this car's history and rarity, it presents quite an opportunity to procure a thoroughbred club racer for mid sized luxury sedan money.

1993 Ferrari 348 Series Speciale

The Ferrari 348 reminds me of the series 996 Porsche 911. It came between two legendary models and is often overlooked by enthusiasts. The 348 was the successor to the successful 308/328 and the predecessor to the F355, which is fast becoming a modern classic in the truest sense. The 348 had an unusually short lifespan for a Ferrari of just six years. It was enough time to see a few special variants come along, including the car you see here for sale: the 348 Series Speciale. Only 100 units of this car was produced in TB and TS variants. Limited for sale to the US market, this edition had a higher horsepower motor (312 horsepower), revised tail lamps and a bigger front spoiler. The rear track was also widened by 25 millimeters. Fifteen units were made with Kevlar sport seats and this is one of them.

1993 black/tan interior. 50,500 miles, engine out service was done January 2011 at 48,000 miles. New nuvolari exhaust, new cam belts and hill engineering tensioners, new front cover bearings, oil pump and timing chain tension blocks, waterpump rebuilt, new rear glass, valve covers powder coated red, new gaskets, ss brake lines, degree camshafts, Mobil 1, Red Line gear oil in trans, new ignition wires, new coil packs, rebuilt alternator, car at this time is registered and inspected, car sounds great drives great.

The mileage on this Ferrari is a bit higher than what we are used to seeing on these models, particularly on a rare edition such as this. This is a lot of exclusivity for the money, and with a recent servicing last year, one should be good for a few more thousand miles. All things being equal, this is a good price of entry for a modern day Ferrari and allows one to set aside funds for the next major servicing.
