1983 Ferrari Mondial QV

Following up yesterday's top-of-the-heap Mondial T, let's take a look at a flawless, original Mondial QV, sitting in the middle of the pack. To start off, we need to address the fact that Ferrari sold four distinct Mondial models throughout the nameplate's lifetime. With each model came a new iteration of the Dino V8.

The Mondial 8 debuted in 1980 with its 16-valve, 214hp fuel-injected V8. The QV added its namesake of quattrovalvole or 4-valve (per cylinder) heads, and a modest step down in compression in 1982. The Mondial 3.2, our personal favorite due to have the highest power of the transversely mounted cars, bumps up the bore, stroke, and compression ratio to get to a 270hp 3.2L iteration for 1985. These are the last of the cars in which a belt service can be performed with the engine in situ. In 1989, the Mondial T ushered in the new longitudinal powertrain layout that Ferrari would maintain for all future mid-engined sports cars. Mondial Ts were equipped with the bored and stroked 3.4L Dino V8, whose bump in compression and displacement netted 300hp.

his is an original Gray exterior car with red leather interior.  The car was painted about a year ago in the same original gray color.  To get the car ready for the new paint t all the glass, bumpers, lights and moldings were removed.  The primary reason for painting the car was due to clear coat peeling off.  All the body panels and trim pieces were kept the same original color. The interior leather, carpet, dash and headliner are all original and in very good original condition. The driver seat foam was strengthen due to age and the original leather cover was reinstalled. The condition of the interior shows the car was well taken care of and was parked indoor all its life.

Complete engine out service on 10/26/2015 at 37,097 miles including replacement of timing belt, tensioner, seals, drive belts, new coolant, engine oil, transmission oil, spark plugs, water pump, etc. The total cost of the service was $12,520.

The emission system is completely new including air pump, valves injector lines, and catalytic converters.  The Car easily passes the strict California emission without any issues which speaks to the condition of the engine.

New clutch, pressure plate, releasing bearing, and starter was installed on 10/1/2016 at 37,624 miles at the cost of $2,942. The clutch is upgraded kevlar material and the pressure plate is upgraded plate from 328 model.

Every power accessory works as they should including  power windows, door locks, mirrors, antenna and the power sunroof which is very rare on these cars to operate properly.  Air Conditioning blows cold air and keeps the cabin at a comfortable temperature in southern California summer heat.
It has a Pioneer CD player with an auxiliary input to connect to your phone, there is an amplifier under the passenger's seat.

The car has aftermarket 7"x16" and 8"x16" wheels that look identical to the original OEM rims but without the issue of being stuck with the Michelin TRX metric tires.  The wheels were bought from Superformance in UK and they are also made in UK. The tires are like brand new and have almost full tread.
The car comes with the complete, unused OEM tools, jack, spare bulb, emergency light, books, first aid kit, and custom made car cover.  The spare tire is brand new and has never been installed on the car.
You can find cheaper Mondials but if you are looking for a Mondial that it is in excellent condition with complete and up to date service history, you will not find another one. By the time you spend the money that I have spent on the paint and services for another Mondial, it will cost you more than my asking price. This is a perfect car for someone that enjoys driving their Ferrari on a regular basis and wants a car that is all original and in perfect condition.
Please note the car will be sold with the original steering wheel that is in very good condition, the MOMO steering wheel on the car is not for sale, I will install the original steering wheel prior to delivery of the car to the new owner.

I drive the car on a regular basis both in heavy traffic and freeways without any issues. The current mileage on the car is 39,700 miles, I drive the car on a regular basis and the mileage may increase during the listing period. I have a clean California title in hand with current registration for the car until September of 2019.

I have all the invoices for the work that was done to the car by a local Ferrari shop.

You may contact me at (310) 892-2177.  The car is located in Newport Beach, California.  I will assist with shipment.

We are hard-pressed to issue a single complaint about this Mondial QV. Perhaps we'd prefer the 3.2 and the bump in power, but that's hardly fair to what seems to be a fully-functional and original example. In addition to the clean engine work, including the full water pump and belt service, the car has a fresh clutch and pressure plate. Cosmetic work, such a glass-out repaint to address peeling clear coat, and new seat foam under the original, surviving seat covers has been carried out neatly, and with skill.

We think it's easiest to pull off a Mondial when you own that it's a Mondial and wear the Ferrari badge modestly. That's why we like this Mondial - it's been optioned with a less-common color combination that restricts the Ferrari red to those sitting inside the car, and thankfully lacks the Ferrari shields on the front fenders. Amazing how fresh a Mondial can present after so many years of proper care. The current owner claims that mileage could increase before sale due to the fact that he drives the car often - good on him. We hope the new seller keeps in line with this and drives this car as often as possible.
