1989 Lancia Delta HF Integrale

There are few cars that combine so many of my favorite things quite like the Lancia Delta Integrale. Born to race, the Delta successfully combined elements of the E30 M3, Golf GTi and Audi Quattro to create its own legacy. The box flares, all wheel drive and turbocharged engine made nearly the perfect hot hatch. Though the Golf Rallye is sought after by the Volkswagen faithful, the reality is that the Delta Integrale was a better car - better proportioned, faster, and significantly more successful where it was intended to race - the World Rally Championship. The Integrale picked up where the legendary Quattro had started and swept to victory in nearly all of the races that it entered. As a result of its successes on the WRC circuit, the many different roadgoing versions of the Delta Integrale were very much welcomed by enthusiasts on the road:

Lancia designed the HF Integrale to incorporate the advanced technical features of the Delta HF 4WD, and to address its shortcomings as a rally car. The result is a stylish, luxurious yet utterly practical five door hatchback with impeccable road manners, but capable of a blistering 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) acceleration in just 6.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 133 mph (214 km/h).

At the heart of the 8-valve HF Integrale is a 2-litre 4-cylinder fuel injected twin cam engine, fitted with contra-rotating balancing shafts. This version incorporated the following improvements over the HF 4WD: New valves, valve seats and water pump, larger water and oil radiators, more powerful cooling fan and bigger air cleaner. A larger capacity Garrett T3 turbocharger with improved air flow and bigger inter-cooler to aid volumetric efficiency, together with revised settings for the electronic injection/ignition control unit and a knock sensor, boost power output to 185 bhp (DIN) (136 kW) at 5300 rpm and maximum torque of 31 m·kgf (304 N·m, 224 lbf·ft) at 3500 rpm.

For me, while the Quattro is a desirable car and I do love my Audi very much, the Lancia has always been an object of desire for me. It flies a bit lower on the radar than some of the other Group A entrants, and being newer many of the examples are still affordable; though with the E30 M3 bringing homologated race cars of this generation up in value it remains to be seen how long these classic Italian super-hot hatches will stay affordable. My suggestion is to grab one while you can!

The affordable Ferrari. A term thrown around a lot but how realistic of a concept is this? Well, if you don't necessarily need the Prancing Horse on your hood but desire the soul of the sports cars from Maranello, there's a curious beast that appeared in the 1960s that could sate your appetite. The Fiat Dino. Offered as a Coupe styled by Bertone or the Pininfarina penned Spider we see here, these ultimate Fiats helped Ferrari homologate the V6 engine for Formula 2 racing. This Dino Spider for sale in Texas was restored in the 1990s and is ready to be enjoyed.

In great condition with an extensive service history file. Restored in the mid 90's, that cost much more than the value of the car at that time - Full body, full mechanical rebuild (engine, transmission, clutch, brakes, suspension etc. etc.), knock off wheels, new soft top, interior retrimmed in tan leather. Needs nothing, drives perfectly. Purchased in California, it was originally White with Red cloth interior and was completely rebuilt at South Texas Auto Restoration (S.T.A.R). Beautiful example of an appreciating classic finished in dark green with tan leather. Drives like a dream. Hagerty Values it between $55,000 and $93,000. Asking $85,000 or best offer.

History: The Fiat Dino 2.0 was the result of a union between mainstream and exotic, producing a unique vehicle for Fiat. The heart of this sleek 2+2 spider is the race derived all-alloy Ferrari V6. A 5 speed gearbox, four wheel disc brakes, and a limited-slip differential show that this is clearly not just a mainstream vehicle with a high performance engine, but a capable sports car. Conceived as a standalone brand, separate to Ferrari for their smaller engine vehicles, the Dino race car was very successful in its class, and needed at least 500 production cars to meet the homologation requirements. Three road car models were produced; the 206GT, Coupe and Spider. An unsuccessful launch in the US led to Ferrari marketing the mid-engine GT, and Fiat the Coupe and Spider. Designed and built by Pininfarina, only 1133 2.0 Spiders were made. The value of this beautiful sports car is rising rapidly.

I'm envisioning this car in its original color and honestly think a white with red leather interior combo would look stunning on this dramatically styled drop top. The current color isn't offensive, but to bring top dollar, it would certainly benefit this car if it was resprayed and retrimmed it its original colors. While more affordable than their Ferrari counterparts, the Fiat Dinos aren't cheap classics. The Coupes tend to be a bit more affordable, as 75% of Dino production were the hard tops. The Spider commands a premium as such and this one is priced just about right when it comes to a good, if not perfect, example.

1984 Lancia Beta 2.0 Volumex Coupe

Does a standard Lancia Beta Coupe seem a bit too ordinary or reliable for your tastes? Knowing how ridiculous that statement sounds, it might seem a bit more reasonable upon glancing at this late model Beta 2.0 Volumex. Toward the end of the Beta's life, Lancia decided to add a Roots type supercharger into the mix for better performance. Capable of producing 135 bhp and the expected increase in torque over the normally aspirated 2.0 liter engine, the VX as it was known differed from its lesser engined siblings by way of a hood bulge and front and rear spoilers. Stiffer suspension was also a part of the package. Just under 1,300 VX Coupes were made; this rare Beta is on offer in Italy about 30 miles south of Milan.

A regular Beta Coupe will run you anywhere from $3,000 to $6,000 on average, with only the most exceptional, museum quality examples reaching towards the upper part of that range. This Volumex is on offer at $11,449. It appears this has 53,000 km (~ 33,000 mi) on the clock, not a surprise given the nice presentation. But over $10,000 for an almost 30 year old Beta? Given the car's reputation, I doubt it will bring those kind of numbers. Realistically, we might be looking at $7,000 to $8,000 at the maximum for this car.

The Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 was the ultimate expression of the type 105, succeeding the GTV 1750 in 1971. These are some of the most handsome coupes that Alfa Romeo has ever produced. Not a flamboyant design, but so utterly tasteful that to this day, they still look fresh. These days, a good GTV 2000 will bring around $25,000 to $30,000 on average, and this well kept example shouldn't be too far out of that range. These cars make great practical classics, as a well sorted one can be reliable enough for regular use while offering up enough performance to keep up with modern day traffic.
