1958 Fiat Fiat Abarth Zagato “Double Bubble”

Working with Sports Car Shop in Eugene, Oregon, I've had the pleasure of sampling a couple of these. As their webmaster, I get some brief seat time with most of their cars on the way to the park for photographs that end up on the website. They are a Double Bubble specialists and actually have 3 Abarth Zagato's right now!

On to the car seen here which is for sale in Chicago by another sports car specialist, we have a fantastic looking driver that proudly wears California Mille decals; an event I'd love to attend especially in great little specialty sports car like this one!

1958 Fiat Fiat Abarth Zagato "Double Bubble" For Sale on eBay

quote from seller's listing:

This car is in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition with new biscuit tan with black piping leather interior, fresh headliner, recently painted dash, restored instruments via Palo Alto Speedometer, refinished steering wheel. New floor pan, water pump, electric fuel pump, horn, steering control arm, etc. Has full roll cage & glass windows. Car was also prepped for the 2010 California Mille, an aggressive 5 day drive, keeping up with Porsche 356s, small Alfas and Lancias. Great fun in the mountain twisties. This is not a trailer queen. We drive it frequently for rallies and car shows. The car has been maintained by an Italian mechanic who specializes in Fiats and Ferraris.

California Mille Rally number can be easily removed as it is stick on. Buyer can either leave it on or we can remove it.

The picture from behind demonstrates really well where this model gets it's nickname of double bubble. And I can confirm that from the inside these cars, those few extra inches of headroom would be critical if wearing a helmet as it's quite tight on the inside. That said, this one has a nice interior fitted that looks quite comfortable and stylish. Great looking car!

1970 Fiat Dino Bertone Coupe 2.4L

Another great offering from Sports Car Shop in Eugene, Oregon. With my very brief time behind the wheel, this car drove very nicely for a car of it's age. This particular example has had a respray and also had the bumpers and moldings shaved, making for a very clean look. Considering it's pedigree, it represents a pretty damn good value I think! Bidding has been brisk, so don't delay.

quote from seller's listing:

According to some publications only 387 of these understated but attractive 4 cam 2.4 liter Dino coupes were produced for the entire world. A spectacular Ferrari drivetrain in a sheep’s body. Unlike the 2 liters, all of the 2.4 liter cars were made in house at Ferrari and supplied the exact same and more robust 2.4 180 hp engine that was fitted to the 246 Dino. This V6 power is transmitted thru a ZF 5 speed gearbox . The four wheel Girling brakes for the 2.4s were shared with the De Tomaso Pantera and the Lamborghini Miura. This is the most desirable Dino coupe model as it has incorporated many improvements and the cast iron block 4 cam engine makes more power and torque than the earlier 2 liter. Rear suspension was also upgraded on the 2.4 cars. This is universally agreed to be the best and most durable version of the Dino Coupes.

As I've mentioned previously, I take most of the pictures for Sports Car Shop and I maintain their website. However, I do not represent their inventory or business with this blog post.

6 Classic Fiat 500’s For Sale Right Now!

I was surprised to see 6 Fiat 500 and 600 models for sale at the same time. Having photographed a handful of these now, I can attest how amazingly small they really are -- but a ton of fun as well.

With the recent announcements on details of the new Fiat 500's in the U.S., I wonder if these will see a resurgence in value like Mini's did here...

Which one would you pick? Leave a comment and help start the conversation!

1966 Fiat 600 Abarth Berlina Corsa Replica

Here's a nicely presented Berlina Corsa replica for sale at Sports Car Shop in Eugene, Oregon. It's been nicely hot-rodded with a Gulf livery paint scheme, tasty Abarth bits, and a huge ragtop fitted for open air driving. Would be perfect for someone who actually wanted to enjoy the car instead of just having it stored in a collection.

quote from Sports Car Shop on this car:

It is finished inside and out in the classic Gulf colors to a driver level standard. It is also fitted with a Webasto type cloth sliding sunroof. This car was built incorporating the classic Berlina Corsa racing modifications. The changes include Abarth grille and badges, the special front radiator extension assembly and cover, fender flairs, and deck lid props. These changes give this little Fiat 600 a look that just says fun and fast. Body is solid with floor rust repair panels that have been welded in place on the floor pans correctly, and we can find no further indication of rust.

Forward propulsion is provided by a built 903 Fiat motor that has been reverse rotated and mated to a 600D gearbox. Stopping power is excellent since it is now provided with front 850 disc brakes and drums in the rear. The motor starts easily and runs smoothly even at idle, and is very strong with the down draft Weber.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I do some work for SCS and these pictures were taken by me. It's a cool little car and I hope it finds a caring new home.

1972 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe For Sale

This fantastic little coupe has only covered 43,400 miles and looks the part. The yellow is a nice shade that highlights the beautiful Pininfarina body lines. I'm not crazy about the late model aftermarket steering wheel or the alloys, but the latter is probably acceptable for the period. Overall it looks like a fantastic opportunity to get a great low mileage example at a decent price in a down economy.

quote from seller's listing:

California car shipped to Connecticut several years ago, purchased and driven by me, (I love it)! Minor repairs done in my term with her include replacing metal (small weak spot) in passenger side floor and reinforcing rear shock mounts, single weber installed and tuned on an 1800cc BC Fiat motor (California owner had transplant done from original 1600cc motor), suspension is good, five speed manual (close ratio short throw) is good and the clutch is good.

Having tuned the Weber carburator, added new plugs and coil, I beleive she could use a valve adjustment... I have not had the time to address that issue. With the exception of the clock, all gauges work, manual windows and all glass is in good shape and the seals are ok.

THE BODY & CHASSIS IS TRULY GREAT, EXTREMELY SOLID with but a few small spots of surface rust, an incredible example when you consider 99.9% of Fiat 124 Coupes (in the world) have gone the ashes to ashes, rust to dust route (in their first ten years or less) and don't even exist in any condition anywhere!

The interior is an integrated mix-match of what appears to be '72 era and '74 era pieces... Having owned (new back in the day) a '71 Coupe followed by a new '74 coupe I can't even tell what is from which group, I think the dash and seats (in good shape) are from a '74-'76, possibly the engine donor car in CA... none of it matters, it all fits and looks right as well as having had a new headliner installed in CA.

First Post on Classic Italian Cars For Sale!

This site is still in its infancy, but I'm trying out new templates and needed a first post. Enjoy!

Here's a gorgeous little 1967 Fiat 1500 convertible for sale in Colorado and offered by Koenig Sales. The simple and early lines on these cars really help the Pinifarina body stand out. So simple and raw!

Take a closer look at this

quote from seller's listing:

This is a 1967 Fiat 1500. This is a California car with zero rust. It's been very well taken care of. It has brand new paint matching the original color. It also has a new Pininfarnia hartz convertible top, all new wool carpet and new seats. It's a five speed manual transmission. The engine has been rebuilt. I have some records for this vehicle. This car drives beautifully, with no mechanical problems or oil leaks. All of the gauges are working. The chrome trims are really shiny, as is the paint. The tires have plenty of tread left on them. Also, the car has a hard top. It's never been in an accident and it has a clean title. This car is stylish and would be fun to drive in the summer time.

My parents had a later Fiat Spider in white with the terrible U.S. specification bumpers. But as a little boy I remember sitting backwards in the back seat waving at the traffic behind us. It would be great to relive those memories, especially with these classic Fiats appreciating significantly in price recently.
