1989 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde

With the fall weather arriving here on the East Coast, I've got visions of escaping the city and tackling some winding B roads covered with leaves. What better tool for the job than a rear-wheel drive Alfa Romeo sedan? This Milano Verde for sale in North Carolina represents the final year for this four-door Alfa before the 164 sedan superseded it in 1991.

This Car is For Sale By Owner & I am helping him with the Listing. It will be a Sale between you & him. This Auction is for a 1989 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde, 3.0L V6, RWD with 5-speed transaxle mated to Limited Slip Diff. DeDeion suspension in rear, 123820 original miles.

The following is a List of the recent work performed on this car:

Brand new Paint
Refurbished Borbet wheels with brand new Sumitomo 205/50/16 tires
Full mechanical service:
Timing belt was done 20K miles ago ( by previous owner)
New P/S, Alt and A/C belts
New plugs, plug wires. Distributor cap/rotor Synthetic oil and filter
Flush rad, new thermostat, new rad hoses and new fan temperature switch
New fuel pump and fuel filter New oil pressure sender unit
New Interstate 75 month battery New exhaust system
Replaced 1 CV boot, other 3 are solid
New yellow Koni Shocks all around New suspension bushings (front and rear sway bars, Watts linkage)
Replaced rear guibo (flex joint for driveshaft), other two were replaced by previous owner and in good shape

Car operation:

All electrics work (power windows, locks, sunroof)
Engine starts easily and revs to redline (6000 rpm) with no issue
No leaks (oil, water, etc.)…..does not appear to burn any oil…
Interior is intact….minimal wear on upholstery.
The Recaro fabric used was notoriously thin and most Verdes have really bad interiors

The Bad:

Slight tears on rear fabric
Wear/staining on front seats…but no through wear on fabric
Some under fender flare rust
Some carpet fading….dye job would fix. No tears or rips in carpet
Minor tear in dash

When they were new, I never was too attracted to the Milano/75 styling, but time has been kind to this car in my eyes. It's got an '80s edginess about it that is lacking in cars today. Anywhere between $5,000 to $10,000 seems to be the order of the day for clean, well kept Milanos, and this one's starting bid of $6,800 puts it right in the thick of that range.

1987 Alfa Romeo Milano Gold

On a visit to New York City a few months ago, I was wandering around the East Village and stumbled across a red Alfa Romeo Milano parked inauspiciously on the street. It's a testament to Alfisti in the US that you still see these distinctive sport sedans on the roads today, 17 years after Alfa Romeo abandoned this market. With a rear-mounted gearbox, inboard rear brakes and near perfect weight distribution, these kind of technical highlights are few and far between in modern day sedans. This non-sunroof Milano Gold for sale in Ohio is one of the best I've seen on the market in the last few years.

For sale is a beautifully maintained and conditioned Alfa Romeo Milano gold version. I am the original owner and purchased the car at Alfa of Columbus. It was serviced by the Alfa dealer while they were still being imported. Since then the car has been driven less than 2,000 miles during the last 20 years. The paint is all original with the exception of the hood which had some acid rain spots before we took delivery. The numbers match, of course, and everything is original with the exception of the tires, brakes, water pump, battery, and exhaust system. The water pump, battery, and exhaust system were replaced a month ago by an Alfa expert in the Columbus area. More than $3,500 was spent bringing these parts back to were they need to be. We have the invoice for these repairs.

We had a walnut Momo steering wheel and matching gear shift knob installed when we purchased the car and still have the original leather wheel and shift knob. We also have the complete shop manual which comes in very handy. Included is a fitted Evolution car cover which has a couple of stains on the lower edge but is in otherwise great condition.

The car runs as strong as the day it was purchased and has to be one of the best examples of this model in the United States. The only reason for selling it is we just purchased an MG TF and have no room for another car. The only problem I can find on the body is a small paint chip and a small bubble on the right rear wheel well which I tried to show in one of the photographs. If I had noticed the chip earlier and touched it up, the bubbling wouldn't have occurred.

This is the last of the Duetta based cars Alfa brought into the US and had the famous deDion rear end with Watts linkage. It allows the car to handle very predictably and runs well going down the road. The car is very well-balanced as Alfa even placed the fuel tank in the center of the chassis for even weight distribution and protection in the event of a crash. (This ain't no stinkin' Pinto!) The rear disk brakes are also mounted inboard, near the transmission and differential for weight reasons. The Italians understand weight distribution in their automobiles. We have placed a reasonable reserve on this automobile as you will not find a better example anywhere. If you are an Alfisti, you know how fun this car is to drive with the wonderful V6 sounds and solid-shifting rear-mounted 5-speed transmission.

This car leaves little to be desired. The paint is exemplary, the upholstery is unblemished and all the maintenance required has been squared away. Quite simply, this is the best Milano you can buy. While the Gold is the base trim level, it is still well equipped for its age. Most Milanos in good nick will trade hands for around $5,000 to $7,000, but I suspect this example will bring closer to $10,000.

1988 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde

Lately we've featured several mint condition Alfa Romeo 164s, but here's a well kept example of the 164's predecessor, the Alfa Romeo Milano, or 75 as it was known in Europe. This is the last of the rear-wheel drive Alfa Romeo sedans and it is looking cosmetically tidy with just under 45,000 miles.

If any of you have ever read any of my post you know that I'm always in and out of the country, and now more out than in. So, I've finally decided that I can not let the Milano keep sitting in a garage, because this time I may be gone for a year or so. So about the Verde. It's an '88 with 43,743 original miles in great condition. This is not a show car but a great daily driver for anyone who wants to enjoy driving to work grocery shopping and what not.

List of things done to car (only 261 miles driven since all these things have been done):

timing belt, water pump, oil + filter changed Mobil 1, new spark plugs, rear break pads, tranny mounts
coolant flush, any rust on body has been taken care of. Brand new accumulator, brand new front and rear guibilos (flex donuts) on drive shaft replaced. Reupholstered head liner, minus sunroof panel. I still have dealership window sticker, and title shows 15,000 miles on car. And God knows how many other things I can't remember.

THE BAD:
Like I said not a flawless show car, various little dents on hood, small dent on left rear quarter, several nicks, the car, when I found it had a tire and some random things chucked in back seat, which obviously did some damage, front left shock is squeaking and front passenger seat has some wear seat (friggin' Recaro matirial) and the sun roof upholstery has fallen.

Asking $6,500 no resonable offer will be refused. PS: if buyer pays for shocks I'll put them in. Will deliver with in a few hundred mile radius as long as travel expenses are payed by buyer.

Cosmetically this car is great, but the two downsides are that it resides in New England (road salt) and that the owner says it had been sitting for a while. Still, there's not a lot of choice these days when it comes to Milanos in good condition and this example is as good as any that are out there for sale. With some attention paid to the front suspension and some reconditioning of the upholstery, this would be a fine driver and about as big of a conversation starter as any sedan could be.

1987 Alfa Romeo Milano 2.5 with 53,000 miles

The Alfa Romeo Milano, or 75 as it was known outside of the US market, was the end of an era. It was the last Alfa Romeo designed before the Fiat takeover, and was the last rear drive Alfa Romeo sedan to be produced. Introduced as a replacement for the Giulietta in 1985, the 75 and Milano enjoyed good sales, selling almost a quarter million units over a three year period.

Milanos are noted for their rear mounted transaxle and sonorous 2.5 and 3.0 V6 engines. Few examples survive today stateside and this particular car with a shade under 54,000 miles under its belt is certainly one of the best you could find.

All emblems glow! Side view mirrors perfect. Clutch is great. Trans shifts great. Engine bay area is showroom new! This might be the nicest Milano left in the US. A true needle in a haystack!

I don't doubt the dealer's claim that this could possibly be the nicest Milano left in the US. It certainly appears from the pictures that this car lives up to the seller's claim that it needs nothing. Also, the timing belt change at 35,000 miles is reassuring. With a few days left in the auction, bidding is strong and heading towards $10,000. A final estimate of around $7,000 to $8,000 seems reasonable, but you more than likely won't come across another Milano in this shape for some time.

Feast your eyes on what is described in the ad as The Best In The World. It's very nice, but I'm not sure I'd go that far. But I don't deny that it's very, very nice indeed. My only real issue is the aggressive front air dam -- but why not rock it until it meets its inevitable fate with a parking curb.

Im personally friends with him and when it went up for sale 3-4 years ago I knew I had to have it. This milano has been hand detail with the best parts available from his collection and my collection of parts, NOTHING, I mean NOTHING is not top notch grade. I have over 30k in this car but to tell you the truth and the reason why Im selling it is because I have 9 cars all very nice exotic and rare cars which leaves me very little time to drive them. This milano has been sitting at my warehouse for the last 9 months without me driving it other than the once every 2 weeks trip around the block to keep it going. I have 3 YES 3 HUGE 3 ring binders of all the work done to this car. I can honestly say that there isnt one item that isnt working in its proper way, being a 1988 and 23 years old that would take a lot of $$$$ to get this car where it is in todays parts terms. The car was stripped and completely taken apart and painted lotus silver, the paint is like glass, body is DEAD straight AND it shows, custom one off front air damn. Nice 17 inch wheels, full custom stereo, nice tint, a/c and heat work great, I had "s" cams installed along with followers and headers leading into a magna flow exhaust. I do have a bypass pipe for the cats if someone wants that it will go woth the car. All new brakes and and pads. It had a suspension set up that would make anyone sh*t thier pants in the turns, it handles like no tomorrow. As you can see from the pics the under carriage of the car is clean and rust free, look at all the performance parts. Powder coated this, chrome that. MOMO wheel with rare alfa horn cap, full evolution car cover, storage boxes in the trunk, custom air intake, euro grill painted to match car. heat shield material under the hood, new battery, I just took the car to the shop and told them to go over it from "BUMPER TO BUMPER" and fix anything they see. Look I have zero budget limits when it comes to cars and this is a pure example of what comes out when its done. on 11-12-10 i had the following to make the car zero problem and 100 percent perfect. interstate battery, rebuild alternator, replace shifter bushings, pull drive shaft and replace correct bolt weights, check alfa control lights, washer bottle and houseing, replace lower a frame bushings, lower ball joint right side,oil change, wheel alignment, vavle adjustment, cam followers exhaust, polish cams, rotor and cap. total cost 2645.85 I have spent in the 3-4 years that I have owned it around 20k to get this car to top shape. The recaros are perfect. Im sure im leaving off a massive amount of stuff but I would suggest calling me and asking questions before bidding. Im selling for one and one reason alone, I just dont drive it like I should. It deserves to go to someone that will enjoy it more than me.

I'm a sucker for these late 80's styling exercises. Plus the faithful of the model proclaim it a real value in terms of its performance compared to its competitors of the period.
