1985 Ferrari 308GTS Quattrovalvole

One of the quintessential sports cars from the 1980s, the Ferrari 308 still turns heads to this day. Popularized in television and film, these cars had star power like few other machines out there. This 308GTS Quattrovalvole added four valves per cylinder to the 3.0 liter V8 offering up 240 horsepower. These were the fastest of all the 308 models. This 308 for sale in Indianapolis wears the classic red over tan color combination and has just over 40,000 miles on the clock.

This awesome 1985 Ferrari 308GTSi is finished in classic Rosso Corsa Red exterior with tan interior and black carpets. This beautiful example has just been fully inspected and had an engine out service performed which included new timing belt and new clutch upon arrival here at our dealership. It was just fitted with new tires, fully detailed and is ready to be enjoyed by the next owner. This is the classic Ferrari body style as seen in the popular "Magnum P.I." television series from that era. This is a well sorted out freshly serviced example so don't waste time as it won't last long.

This car is priced just about right, as most clean, well documented 308s are exchanging hands in the low to mid $30,000 range, which makes this a tempting proposition for children of the 1980s wishing to live out their fantasies.

1985 Maserati Biturbo

One of the most maligned Italian cars has returned to CICFS. The Maserati Biturbo was an effort to move the company from manufacturing high end supercars to producing sport luxury vehicles capable of bringing the fight squarely to BMW and Mercedes-Benz. This Biturbo for sale in Philadelphia looks clean and is well documented. But should someone wanting to scratch that Maserati itch take a chance?

Only 49k miles. One owner, no accidents, Autocheck certified. 5-speed manual, two turbochargers. Rear-wheel drive, luxury sports car. Air conditioning, leather, power windows, runs great!

With only one previous owner, this automobile is ready for you.The mileage represented on this vehicle is accurate. This is a smoke-free automobile. There are no signs of prior damage on this vehicle. There is no damage evident on this vehicle. All power equipment is functioning properly. The engine on this vehicle is running properly.

For a Biturbo, low mileage isn't always a plus as it is with other vehicles. As we've discussed at length, these cars were notoriously unreliable and are not looked upon favorably by enthusiasts of the marque or in general, for that matter. Sure, everything might be working now, but tomorrow, all hell could break loose. It's encouraging to see a slew of service receipts and $6,500 is cheap when it comes to Italian exotica. Potential buyers must realize, though, that their chances of nursing a Biturbo through a few thousand miles without fault is about as high as hitting 21 on the $100,000 Blackjack table.

Theme Week: A Tribute to Sergio Pininfarina: 1985 Ferrari 288GTO

To close our theme week dedicated to Sergio Pininfarina, I thought I would select one of his most striking designs: the Ferrari 288GTO. Named the number two sports car of the 1980s behind its rival, the Porsche 959, this car was curiously tied to the 959 by way of the the Group B race series. While the competed in the series, the 288GTO never turned a wheel in Group B. Still, it's nice to dream about what could have been, especially with a car that packs a 2.8 liter, twin turbocharged V8 pumping out 400 horsepower and catapulting the car to 60 mph in under 5 seconds. Heady numbers for the period indeed. This particular 288GTO is owned by British radio personality Chris Evans and is part of his famous White Collection that was recently featured on Top Gear.

1985 Ferrari 288GTO

Chris Evans' 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO LHD. White blue interior. It is one of Ferrari’s great cars and only 272 examples were made. 440 bhp,2855 cc mid mounted engine with dual overhead camshafts, twin turbo chargers and fuel injection. This stunning example had a ground up restoration costing more than £100,000 in 2009. It is like taking delivery of a new car and is one of the famous White Collection belonging to well known radio and tv presenter Chris Evans.

Launched: Geneva 1984. Body designed by Pininfarina, built by Ferrari 90' V8, 80 X 71mm, 2855cc, 400bhp at 7000rpm, 366ft/lbs torque at 3800rpm. Longitudinal mid engine with tin over head camshafts, four valves per cylinder and twin IHI turbochargers. Five-speed all synchromesh gearbox. Electronic fuel injection and ignition by Weber/Marelli together. Dry sump lubrication. Independent front and rear suspension. Disc brakes. Tubular steel chassis with body and other parts made from fibreglass. Kevlar, carbon fibre, Nomex and aluminium honeycomb. Wheelbase 8'5". This car is left hand drive.

I can't think of many cars that strike a better balance between grace and muscle than the 288GTO. Between $650,000 and $800,000 is where values currently stand for these brutes. The 288GTO alone is a rare vehicle, with under 300 examples ever being constructed. The unique color may not be to everyone's taste but along with the provenance, it will probably drive the price up a bit from more ordinary GTOs. The price isn't advertised but as the old adage goes, if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

1985 Lamborghini Countach 5000S

The Lamborghini Countach is a supercar icon. It stood the automotive world on its ear with it's styling when it was introduced in the early 1970s. It led a long life, carrying Lamborghini through to the 1990s when the Diablo was unveiled. This 5000S is a rare piece in that it is a fuel injected model, one of the few produced before the QV version, or Quattrovalvole, appeared on the scene. In sublime Merlot Red sans spoilers, this Countach has a sense of purity about it, even if the angular styling is rather dramatic.

Exterior: Beautiful finish with a deep reflection in a one of a kind stunning color Merlot Rosso. Very few paint flaws in this fine example.

Interior: A dual tone black & red leather interior with red carpet. It is in great shape with light scuffs in the leather and the dashboard should be redone cause the leather had stretched. Overall a really nice interior.

Glass: Some scratches in side roll down section, front windshield is fine.

Tires: Replaced in the front but still has the P zeros in the rear, plenty of rubber on front and back tires.

Wheels: Great shape with light curb marks, easy fix.

Drivetrain: No leaks from engine or trans and no smoke when running. Clutch has been replaced and is fine, no problems shifting.

Almost $140,000 is serious money for a 1985 Countach; the seller seems rather certain that the rare fuel injection option should command such a premium. Typical values for a Countach of this era can range from around $75,000 to $115,000. While a rarity such as this car certainly should command a bit more than your typical Countach, a $25,000 to $30,000 premium at the least might be a bit of a stretch.

1985 Fiat Ritmo 130TC Abarth

Every since the original Volkswagen Golf GTI appeared on the scene, the automotive landscape has never been the same. The hot hatchback took over where the roadster left off in the 1970s, and cars such as the Mini Cooper S, current Volkswagen GTI and Fiat 500 Abarth offer motorists big fun in small packages. One of my favorite hot hatchbacks of the 1980s is a bit of a dark horse. The Fiat Ritmo, or Strada as it was known here in North America, didn't exactly set the sales charts on fire. That could possibly be attributed to the fact that they weren't the most attractive or well built vehicles. Another reason could be the mere fact that Fiat omitted their hot version from the lineup here, namely the 105TC, 125TC and finally, the 130TC that we see here. The 130TC was a dual carb little monster, capable of 60 mph from a standstill in about seven and a half seconds from its twin cam, 2.0 liter 128 horsepower four cylinder engine. This very original example is for sale in Potenza on the Italian Adriatic coast.

1985 Fiat Ritmo 130TC Abarth

Fiat Ritmo Abarth 130TC, 1985, 2000cc, 89,000km, red over black interior. Black and gray plate, in original condition and perfect shape. Original exhaust and wheels, new brakes, new reconditioned carburetors, new fuel pump, new belt. Ready to immediately use. Enrolled in the ASI, beautiful and fitted with certificate of historical importance.

As with most Italian cars, red suits this Ritmo Abarth. The asking price of over $11,000 USD is a hard figure to swallow when the best, most original Strada here in the US may bring $2,000 to $3,000. But, for those intrepid enthusiasts, there is a lot of interesting machinery that is now legal to import stateside, this fiery little hatchback being one of them.

1985 Fiat Panda

With the revival of the Fiat 500, MINI Cooper and New Beetle, there’s a lot of talk in the automotive industry about how far basic transportation has progressed. These cars are all way more luxurious than their predecessors; some purists deride this fact, but for the most part, the public has warmed up to them because of this. However, back in 1980, Fiat kind of split the middle between vintage and modern when it came to cheap transportation with the introduction of the Fiat Panda. Devised as a basic car that would be cheap to maintain, it was fashioned in the mold of the CItroën 2CV and Renault 4, cars that were popular with rural communities. With simple, box like styling, it had a few unique features like a rear seat that would fold flat, removable, washable seat covers, door trims and dashboard cover and flat glass panels, which made for cheap repairs. This was also the first small, transverse engine vehicle to utilize a four wheel drive system, making it optimal for the rural market at which it was targeted. With a new Panda on the horizon and with talk surrounding it that it may be sold in the US market, this is a good point to highlight a vehicle that is still beloved the world over for its simplicity and all terrain capability.

1985 Fiat Panda

Fiat Panda 4X4 Series 1 (now a rarity). Excellent condition, body has had a little conservative restoration. Leather seats and mechanically flawless. Thanks to her drive system lever very capable in snow or in mountains of ice. Words can not describe the toughness and strength she has to climb out of everything. ALso an interesting car historically. Now a vintage vehicle that can be enrolled in ASI taking advantage of low insurance. Possibility of shipping: All in Italy, pick up direct with maximum delivery within one hour.

At almost €3,000 (~ $4,000 USD), this is big money for what could be described as a peasant car. However, few Series 1 Pandas are left in such good condition these days and one could be assured they wouldn't be exactly throwing their hard earned money away, as these cars are quite durable and are used as they were meant up to the present day. If the seller could knock something meaningful off the price, say, about €500, it could be considered a good buy and a topic of conversation if brought back stateside.

1985 de Tomaso Innocenti Turbo

If you catch yourself saying, well, the original Mini is just a bit boring for me, then meet its Italian cousin, the Innocenti Mini. Developed when British Leyland Motor Corporation owned Innocenti, this car was a revamped version of the original Mini with bodywork styled by Bertone. Upon BL’s bankruptcy in 1976, Innocenti was sold to de Tomaso, and a year later, the Mini de Tomaso arrived on the scene with styling tweaks and a higher horsepower engine. In the early 1980s, the BL engines were swapped for units supplied by Daihatsu, much to the dismay of Italian enthusiasts. The Turbo version we see here bowed in 1983, and featured a 993 cc three cylinder turbocharged engine good for about 71 horsepower, or 67 horsepower in Canadian trim. These were brought into Canada new via an importer by the name of Incacars Inc., but only from 1984 through 1986. This particular example for sale in Quebec City looks clean but is listed as a project car.

1985 de Tomaso Innocenti Turbo

Little is given in the way of a description for this vehicle, but I have a hard time seeing how this is a project car, as it looks rather complete. It could have mechanical issues, but as far as the bodywork, trim and interior go, it looks solid. Since the Charade was sold in North America, parts would not be as difficult to source as one may think. One could also go the unconventional route and fit a breathed on engine from a period Mini Cooper as well. Either way, this is a neat piece of automotive history that has the fingerprints of several manufacturers on it. With such a chequered history, it is amazing that these lived on in production until 1993.

1985 Alfa Romeo 6 2.5 TD

One of the things that both the Italians and French are good at, besides making love, cooking and fine wine is manufacturing desirable small cars. When tasked with designing and selling executive-sized sedans, this is where both countries come up short. As interesting as their offerings have been at times, they never really took off, with exception of the Citroën DS. One very forgotten executive sedan from Alfa Romeo is the 6. These were not huge sellers, with only a shade over 12,000 produced from 1979 to 1986. As a result, examples which survive to this day are in extremely rare company.

They were well equipped cars, however, featuring rear-wheel drive, with power steering, power windows, electric mirrors and central locking, along with a limited slip differential as standard. Minor styling tweaks came along for 1983, along with this car’s engine, the 2.5 liter VM 5 cylinder turbodiesel. This particular 6 that is for sale in Spain has the five cylinder turbo diesel engine which was related to the diesel engine that Jeep offered in their Cherokee for certain overseas markets. This 2.5 liter, overhead valve engine pumped out 103 horsepower and produced a respectable 177 lb ft. of torque. It's not the optimal choice for enthusiasts, but with cars these rare, beggars can't be choosers.

1985 Alfa Romeo 6 2.5 TD

Alfa Romeo 6 2.5 TD, fabulous limited edition! Brand new car that belongs to a private collection. Always garaged. Sold only by lack of space.

At €8,000 (~ $10,500 USD), this is not a cheap '80s Alfa. I’m not sure if I would be the type of person to pay for such nostalgia and one must consider that parts must be awfully difficult to source for a vehicle built in such small numbers with a near non-existent following. The diesel engine does add a bit of durability into the package and hopefully this car can find a good home where it can be preserved as one of the last of its kind.
