1970 Fiat 500L

While wandering around the city the other weekend with friends, one of them spotted something in the parking lot and turned to me, exclaiming “what’s that?!?” Parked amongst a sea of gray SUVs and rather ho-hum sedans was this little red compact, more specifically, a Fiat Cinquecento. This was the car that helped put Italy on wheels and is still a rather common sight on various streets throughout the Old World, but over on US shores, they are few and far between. This 1970 500L for sale in New York has been restored and is the perfect runabout for an urban dweller who seeks economy but wants a bit of flair to go along with it.

Small classics and microcars have gained big in the market over the last few years. Find a good Cinquecento and be prepared to spend a decent amount. Prices are averaging around $20,000 for a 500L in good running order. A restored example like this may bring closer to $25,000, however, more information on where the restoration was undertaken and an actual mileage figure would be nice.

1970 Lancia Fulvia HF 1.6

I guess I'm on a bit of a Lancia kick over the last few posts, but what drew me to this car was the rarity and the color. It is, after all, Easter and what more fitting way to celebrate than with an egg-colored Fulvia? Outside of the compelling color, there's quite a lot to like here; it's a HF 1.6 Fulvia that looks correct and is restored. What's not to like? Well, it's not in the U.S....yet:

If you were serious about this car, it's worth a call to figure out what the story is. Granted, the photos aren't stellar, but the price is right at the bottom of the market for HF 1.6s - $55,000 is downright affordable for a real deal HF. So what is the deal? Why is this car priced $30,000 below where it could be? A few careful calls and inspections could reveal the truth, or a stunning deal on a very neat classic Lanica!

1970 Maserati Indy 4200

When looking to replace the Mexico model, Maserati both looked towards the future and the past. Named to celebrate two Indianapolis 500 victories in 1939 and 1940 with a 8CM, the Indy was decidedly futuristic compared to Maseratis of the 1960s. Along with the Ghibli, Vignale's new design would take Maserati through the 1970s with additions of the mid-engined and similarly styled Bora and Merak, but the more traditional Indy led the way. A bit of a rare site these days, this Indy has undergone a restoration and is ready to roll:

While the restoration is more recent, the condition isn't perfect; and to me, that's fine - allowing you to drive the car and not worry about ruining value or condition. This Indy has power steering which is a plus, but is the lower spec 4200 motor instead of the full-bore 4.7 or later 4.9. While today these Indys aren't worth what the big brother Ghibli is, that message apparently hasn't stopped this owner from asking top dollar. Hagerty lists a condition 1 4.2 Indy as a $60,000 car; this car is priced $10,000 above that although the seller notes it's not perfect. However, you could easily drop $10,000 or more trying to get a bad Indy slightly better, so if you like the color combination a well placed call and some cash might just change that figure to something you'd like a bit more.

1970 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe

Just as soon as we feature one Fiat 124 Sport Coupe, here comes another one. This BC series 124 Sport Coupe for sale in California is my favorite of the all, with its front end resembling a bit of a Fiat Dino Coupe.

1970 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe

Up for auction is my clean 1970 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe. I have owned this car for 28 years. It has been a fun-to-drive, reliable car and I will be sorry to see it go. As can be seen by the pictures, the Fiat is in excellent condition, with only a few minor flaws to the exterior and interior. It does have a small paint chip on the upper left rear fender and a couple small door-dings. The passenger seat has a split in the cushion bottom and there are splits along the seams on top of the rear seat. The dash has one crack just above the gauges. It is mechanically sound. The last time I drove the Fiat the water pump bearing was making noise, although it was running at the normal operating temperature. Just want bidders to be aware of this. It will probably need a new headlight/directional/wiper switch as this has periodically stopped working. Easily found and replaced.

At 106,809 miles I had the timing belt and front cam seals replaced. Also both front brake flex hoses and the rear fuel lines. Oil and filter were changed every 3,000 miles. The Fiat has been garage kept, covered, since I've owned it. Paint and all bright work are clean. Glass is in excellent condition. I can't imagine finding a cleaner example. The Fiat has been shown at the Italiano Concorso in Monterey, California, of which I have photographs. Comes with original owner manuals and print ad. Please email with any questions.

The 124 Sport Coupe we featured last week did not sell, not meeting its reserve with a final bid of $8,400. That was surprising to me, as that car needed a bit of work. This BC variant is in much better nick. As such, I'd suspect it will probably sell for a figure close to $10,000 or a little above.

1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000

If ever there was an Italian cousin to the legendary BMW 2002, it would be this car: the Alfa Romeo GTV Coupe. These rear-drive coupes with their twin cam engines offer motorists classic Italian driving thrills in a tidy Bertone penned package. As with many desirable classics, prices have been strong for these coupes for quite some time. This GTV for sale in Colorado isn't perfect, but is offered at no reserve and looks great with the Panasport/Minilite style wheels.

1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000

Up for sale is a 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000. It is blue on tan, with Mini Lite replica wheels. It has a proper European Weber conversion, factory A/C, Centerline performance springs, European spec cams, Magnaflow exhaust, stainless steel brake lines, and polyurethane bushings. One of the most beautiful cars Bertone ever designed was the GTV, and this one looks the part. I have most of the records since new. I also have the original bill of sale, from Colorado and has been here since.

It was repainted at one point in its life and it was done at a commercially acceptable standard. It is not perfect but looks good at 10 ft. There is the typical rust in the wheel wells, the bottom of the windshield frame and in the rockers. It is minor but the paint is bubbling in some spots. The interior is in decent shape. The drivers seat bolster has wear, the door panels are wavy and the dash has a cap on it. The tachometer needs to be rebuilt, it reads high. The factory A/C blows ice cold, the gearbox shifts perfectly, the engine has good compression on all cylinders, it drives like a new car, no strange noises from the suspension, very few leaks (it’s Italian), fully serviced and runs like a proper GTV should.

If you are looking for a GTV that you can drive and enjoy this is the one. It can be driven in middle of the summer with the A/C blasting and cruising in style and comfort. It can then be taken to the track and enjoyed in all of its glory with its suspension and upgraded engine. The car is not perfect so you won’t have to worry about the occasional rock chip or scratch. If you want a GTV to use as it was intended to, this is the perfect car. It is mechanically very sound and I would not hesitate to drive it across the country tomorrow.

With no reserve, this GTV will probably reach into the low $20,000 range, as there are a few issues that need to be addressed. This is still a very drivable car, though, and with no reserve, represents a potential opportunity to get a GTV at a discount. GTVs in outstanding condition can reach into the $30,000 range these days, but this one will most likely fall short of that.

1970 Fiat 850 Spider

It might be the middle of winter for us East Coasters out there, but if you're thinking about a convertible for the summer, this is the time to buy. If you want a lot of fun on a budget, the Fiat 850 is a great choice for those seeking al fresco motoring. Based on rear-engined, Fiat 850 mechanicals, the 850 Spider had styling by Bertone that set it apart from its larger 124 Spider sibling. This 850 Spider for sale in New York is an original car except for the new convertible top that was recently installed.

They are Only Origianl Once! 1970 Fiat 850 Spider Bertone Edition Convertible. Imported by Fiat Roosevelt Motors Inc. Sold New by Fiat Free World of Manhattan

Two owners, garage kept
63,269 original miles,
Original paint, original interior
Original window sticker, original owner manual
4 cyl, 4-speed transmission
Everything works, never in an accident
Normal expectations of original paint with nicks scratches
Fun to drive
New top installed
Two new window regulators already installed
Doors sag, door latches need adjustment
Air cleaner repainted
Lower front both fenders metal breaks
New Interstate battery
Paint is believed to be original as I see no over spray anywhere
Small minor dent passenger rear quarter

Look at the pictures carefully, for a northeast Fiat it is solid. There are areas in the floor sheet metal with rust on either side see the pictures. Really NOT TOO BAD for a Fiat of this year and it is in original condition. This sporty two-seater Fiat was designed and built by Bertone, the same Italian company that has built cars for Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Fiat, Lamborghini, Mercedes Benz, and many more!

For an 850 Spider out of New York, this has survived remarkably well. I really like the fact that this looks like an honest car, rust showing where you'd suspect, but not being too out of control. The asking price for this car isn't way over the top, but if you could have the seller knock about $1,000 off, it would be a good deal for summer motoring on the cheap.

1970 Fiat 850 Spider

Since we're talking about cheap motoring thrills this weekend at CICFS, how about this Fiat 850 Spider? Overshadowed by its larger sibling, the 124 Spider and eclipsed in popularity by the Alfa Romeo 105/115 Spider, the 850 does have its merits. Based on the Fiat 850 which was itself an evolution of the Fiat 600, the 850 Spider offers a unique driving experience with its rear engine layout and diminutive size. This car for sale in Oregon is good quality driver that you wouldn't be afraid to use and enjoy on a regular basis.

Very nice car. Purchased in San Diego in 2005, trailered to Portland OR. Driven daily for the first couple of years, but lately its been driven only in the summer and garaged all winter. Newly-plated Abarth header and muffler give it a nice throaty sound. Factory hardtop was taken down to metal and painted. A new hew headliner was installed at a local upholstery shop. New dashboard installed and dash rewired, but within a month it developed two cracks (pictured). Very reliable daily driver. New tires and battery, rebuilt carburetor, new master cylinder. Handles nicely. Maintained in Portland by a local shop whose owner used to race vintage Fiats.

Miscellaneous maintenance and improvements made over the last few years. Two spots of rust on the body, each about two inches in diameter. I had the trunk lid taken down to metal, a rust spot removed, then repainted. But it came back within a year. There is also a small bubble of paint at the bottom of the passenger door (pictured). Also, each seat has a two-inch separation of a seam (pictured). Entire bottom edge of car has undercoating treatment. Selling because I have too many vehicles and am self-funding a new business.

Fiat 850 Spiders in good nick will average between $5,000 and $10,000, so at $5,000, this is not a bad deal for what you are getting. While it has some flaws, they are mainly cosmetic and nothing that would be too difficult or expensive to fix. I've never paid much attention to these rear engined runabouts, but I think it's about time that enthusiasts wake up to just how much Italian fun a little bit of money can buy them.

1970 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300Ti

There has been a steady trickle of cars here on CICFS that have been sourced from Europe, and this Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300Ti is one of them. Coming from Germany, this Alfa was restored in the old world and now resides in sunny Florida. In red over tan, this Berlina looks sharp and would make an excellent practical classic.

1970 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300Ti, Red with Tan interior. I purchased the car in Germany and restored it in Europe before shipping to the US. Engine has been rebuilt using original standard size bearings and pistons/rings. All rust repair was done professionally and rust prevention was applied before painting. Brakes are all rebuilt, transmission mounts replaced, etc.
All the parts for the restoration was purchase from OKP.DE in Germany. I purchased a new carpet from OKP but I still have the original rubber carpet. The original vinyl seats are still great, the driver seat however needed vinyl replacement. Odometer shows 48320km (approx. 30,200 miles) but I can not confirm weather it is correct or not. The odometer and speedometer works fine just like everything else on the car. During restoration the body was completely stripped and all rusted panels were replaced (again we used OKP)

Car is mostly original and complete, nothing missing, runs and drives perfect. We recently participated in a local Alfa Romeo show (one picture is included from the show). Picture # 23 shows the car during restoration and the last picture shows the car as it was purchased. Car has a clear FL title and located in Sanford Florida. You can drive it home from Sanford, FL, there is no mechanical or any other issue with it.

Small problems with the car:
1. Windshield has a small chip
2. Headlight ring is not original Alfa, its from a Fiat 124. Fits perfect but slightly different.
3. Grille chrome bars are not original, instead of metal it is chromed plastic.

This Giulia has been restored nicely, but not to a point that you would be afraid to use it. Like the last Giuliawe featured, we're probably looking at a $15,000 to $20,000 car.

1970 Fiat 128

The Fiat 128 was the car that pioneered front-wheel drive at Fiat. Voted European car of the year in 1970, the 128 pioneered unequal length driveshafts and was praised in the motoring press for it's handling and braking performance. It wasn't a very fast car, but the Aurelio Lampredi designed 1.1 liter, SOHC four cylinder was a rather advanced engine for the day, with an aluminum head and rubber timing belt. Over three million 128s were manufactured until production was halted in 1985, after which, the 128 lived on under license by a multitude of companies. The last company to produce a 128 derivative was Zastava, which ceased production in 2001. Like many Italian cars of the era, rust was a constant issue. This 128 for sale in Florida has recently been imported from Europe and was recently repainted, with rust issues being addressed, which included the rustproofing of the undercarriage.

1970 Fiat 128

1970 Fiat 128. One owner original european car. Original 89,400km (ca 56,400 miles). I bought it myself in Europe from the first owner (retired high school teacher). I have the original european registration which shows it is a one owner vehicle. When I bought the car it still had the original paint with some small rust spots. The car was garaged her entire life. The pictures 15 & 18 shows the car original ad. Everything was original. It is a very rare unmolested car.

We just repaired the rust spots, replaced the sill panels and painted the car, using the original color code. Some pictures show this process. We dissambled the car for professional painting. Doors, hood, lid, trims, moldings, door handles were removed before the painting. The underbody was also cleaned, repaired and rustproofed. Interior is all original except the floor carpet. The original rubber cannot be fixed. Now has carpeted floor.

The seats, door panels, headlinerare original. Engine compartment still has the original factory paint (and stickers). Very hard to find a 42 year old Fiat (or any italian car) in this original condition, Most of them are rusted or modified during years. This car isn't fully restored, because not required. It is original (except the listed jobs plus, timing belt, and maintance items). In 1970 the Fiat 128 was the car of the year (1966 was another Fiat, the 124).

It has a 1.1 liter OHC engine, paired with a 4 speed manual transmission. Power is 55hp net (measured by DIN norm). Top speed is 135 km/h (85mph). It has just arrived last week to the USA. The custom held the container for 2 weeks for inspection and they charged $1,200 for inspection and storage. Now she has clear Florida title, but I still have the original European registration, copy of the European title (original must be submitted to DMV), copy of the custom clearance and Seaway bill. I'm selling with a reasonable reserve (just the shipping and custom cost more then $2,000).

If you would like to own a piece of Italian car history this is your chance. I believe it is very hard to find another original 42 years Fiat. Once again this not a fully restored car. It is a well kept, well maintained car, with a new professional paint job, but it is still more then a 40 years old vehicle. I tried to keep the car in original and we just did the necessary works to be nice original Fiat for another 40 years. Beside this one I brought some more cars from Europe (1970 Alfa Giulia 1300Ti, 1985 Alfasud Sprint, maybe the only one in USA), which ones will be listed soon. Later I'll bring a 1982 Lancia Gamma Coupe Pininfarina and a 1975 Alfa GT 1300 Junior. If you looking for cars from Europe I can help to find and ship to USA.

For a car of the people, $7,500 certainly isn't a bargain, but the amount of bodywork that has gone into this car is heartening, not to mention it costs a decent bit of cash to import a vehicle to the US. Realistically, $5,000 to $6,000 is more along the lines of what this car might bring, as the closer you inch towards the $10,000 mark another classic Italian sedan comes into view: the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Hopefully this 128 finds an appreciating new owner, as this is one of the cars that brought motoring freedom to millions of Europeans over several decades.

1970 Maserati Indy

Designed to take over where the Mexico and Quattroporte left off, the Maserati Indy had the appearance of a stretched version of its stablemate, the Ghibli. Offered with either a 4.2 liter or 4.7 liter V8 for the 1970 model year, these coupes were named in honor of Maserati's two Indy 500 victories. Over a six year production run, a little over 1,100 of these coupes were produced. This 1970 example for sale in California is equipped with the 4.2 liter engine, 5-speed manual gearbox and a classy color combination of black over tan hides.

1970 Maserati Indy

I am pleased to offer my 1970 4.2 Liter Indy coupe with 5 speed manual and powersteering. It was imported from Italy (Milano) in the 1980s and the car is in very good condition. The engine was completely overhauled and recently finished after the restoration project stalled for a few years. It literally has only 15 miles on the new engine and is presently being run in. Smooth and powerful the new engine will be even better after a brief break-in period. The front suspension is new along with a long list of mechanical upgrades and rebuilds. All systems are working and it is a wonderful driving car. I have many receipts for the restoration work done in the past.

The interior has been completely redone in beautiful italian leather and wool carpets and is stunning in every way. The 4.2 engine was the only engine offered in the 1969 and early 1970 Indy and it is a very strong and reliable unit reving to 5600rpms and getting over 22 mpg. A total of 1136 Indys were produced from 1969 thru 1973 and the later cars featured the larger 4.7 and 4.9 engines to offset the impending emission controls. Black is the original color for this car and the tan leather interior is virtually new in every respect. As Maserati GT car's values rise to well over $100,000.00, the Indys are catching the attention of collectors due to their build quality, fluid lines and comfortable and usable rear seat area. There are many cheap unrestored Indys out there and they will cost as much as a Ghibli to restore so best advise is to find a solid and well sorted example while they are still affordable. This is a numbers matching car and is refinished in the original solid black paint. New exhaust and detailed front suspension and very clean chassis.

In comparison to the Ghibli, values on Indys are typically not as stratospheric. The best example of an Indy may bring between $50,000 to $60,000, and I would suspect this car's reserve price is hovering around that range. The color combination, condition and newly rebuilt motor are sure to appeal to collectors looking to procure an example of a lesser known Italian exotic.
